Overused and under estimated insomnia is a dangerous space to be in. We don't need scientific studies to assure us of what we already know... Not sleeping is bad for you.

If you've struggled with sleep chances are you've already read the go to tricks and there's a plethora online however few are tried and tested by a long term insomniac with two kids, a legitimately insane lifestyle, constant jet lag and high levels of pressure... until now!

If you break all the basic rules because you need coffee after midday in order to function and the idea of not using your mobile in the evening is completely unrealistic then you're in the right place.

Here's my unorthodox tips for sleep...

Literally EAT Lavender

Lavender has anxiolytic effects lowering anxiety and calming the mind. Everyone's grandma has the essential oils but if you really want some powerful effect try eating it. Lavender is of course a plant, a herb infact and herbs have a power I fully subscribe to.

In a clinical study published in 2013 Valium dependent patients who resulted a significant decrease in sleep duration by stopping sedative treatment, found sleep was restored to previous levels by substitution of aromatherapy with lavender oil. This study suggested that ambient lavender oil might be used as a relief from medication for insomnia and reduces the side-effects of these drugs.
